Learning assistance programs

We monitor each student’s progress and provide additional learning support if this is required.

Our school uses learning programs and specialised staff where needed and we work in partnership with parents and carers to assist students who have special learning needs.

Our school is committed to working with Aboriginal parents and community members in developing personalised plans for our Aboriginal students.

The Learning and Support Teacher has a role within whole school initiatives to improve outcomes for students with additional learning and support needs.

The role of the Learning and Support Teacher as a member of the school learning and support team is outlined here: Learning and Support

The Learning Support Team co-ordinates the delivery of support programs for students as well as the work of the School Counsellor (2 days per week).

The School Counsellor is able to conduct assessments on students referred by the Learning Support Team, Class Teachers and Parents.

An English as a Second Language Teacher works at our school 2 days per week.  Students are assessed and receive support in a number of different groupings according to Language proficiency. All Phase 1 students (limited English) receive the most support with Phase 2 and Phase 3 students receiving a lesser amount of support from the ESL specialist teacher.

A number of students with diagnosed disabilities receive Funding Support to enable teachers’ aides to provided 1:1 and small group assistance in the classroom under the direction of classroom teachers.

BEAR - Being Excited About Reading program

Every year a group of our dedicated parents participate in a reading tutor program designed to specifically target Year 1 students who need extra support in reading. It has been a tremendous success so far with all students making great gains in their reading.

The program involves our parent volunteers participating in a 3 hour training workshop to prepare them for the program. They are trained to work 1:1 with students over a fifteen week period using specially tailored programs.
