Leichhardt Public School values and nurtures the talents, qualities and interests of our students and provides programs and experiences which ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their potential. We have high expectations of all our students and support them to understand, manage and enjoy their learning.

Our History

Leichhardt Public School has stood on its current site since 1862. In 2012, we celebrated our sesquicentenary, marking 150 years of learning, community and growth. Over that time, the school has seen significant shifts in enrolment and demographic patterns. In the 1920s, enrolments peaked at more than 2,250 students, while numbers were comparatively small during parts of the 1990s. As the local community diversified throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, Leichhardt Public School evolved with it, and the school now benefits from a rich cultural heritage and a vibrant inclusive community.

In recognition of Leichhardt Public School’s 150th birthday, a detailed history of the school was thoughtfully compiled by dedicated staff and parent contributors.
